Minerva
Minerva is the Roman goddess of wisdom, justice, law, victory, and the advocate of arts, trade, and strategy. She is a prominent figure in Roman mythology, she appears in many famous myths. This sculpture is inspired by an original 18th century head of Minerva by the ‘Coade’ Manufactory. Minerva’s face is influenced by an original 2nd century Roman bust that resembles Greek models of the late fourth to early third century B.C. This bust was used as a basis for the over life sized Coade statues of the four seasons. It was then modified with the addition of the plumed helmet and clothing of Minerva.
