The Coade original lion of the 18th century was modelled on the Egyptian basalt lions at the base of the Capitoline Steps, Rome, Italy. However, much of the simple refinement of form of the Roman lions was lost in translation in the 18th century. Our team of sculptors at Coade Studio, have remodelled these modern lions to resemble the original form more closely
