River God
A naked figure seated on a rocky surface. The River God’s hair is garlanded with reeds and an upturned amphora, spilling water into the river at his feet. The original marble sculpture, created by a famous French Sculptor Jean-Jacques Caffieri around 1759, can be seen in the Louvre, Paris. Examples of River Gods, (usually in a reclining pose) and similar figures can be seen at Ham House, Richmond and The Grotto at Stourhead, Wiltshire.
